NYAEC Conference – Washington DC – November 2018

NYAEC is the National Association for the Education of Young Children, as per their website, is “a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.”

NYAEC is the world’s leading organization supporting educational efforts in early childhood, comprising more than 60,000 members, organizing an annual conference that constitutes a prime opportunity to learn about the latest trends, innovations and cutting-edge practices regarding early childhood education. The conference features hundreds of sessions on a very wide range of topics, workshops and a large exhibit hall where vendors from all over the world present the latest product developments for the sector.

This year’s conference takes place from November 14-17 in Washington DC, a vibrant city with many cultural opportunities. The Global Academy’s first learning journey will comprise a trip to this conference, school visits in the area, sightseeing and cultural visits within Washington DC, a cultural crossroads in the US.

A preliminary schedule for the trip includes:

Last week in October 2018: Introductory workshop. Latest trends in early childhood education. An analysis and review of conference logistics, tracks, workshops, speakers. Navigating the exhibit hall, most important vendors and exhibitors, most innovative products. Background on schools to be visited, presentation of cultural options and sightseeing opportunities in Washington DC.

Sunday, November 11: Buenos Aires – Washington DC

Monday, November 12: Arrival in Washington DC – Sightseeing and museum visits.

Tuesday, November 13: School visits. Alexandria tour. Visits monuments at night.

Wednesday, November 14 – Saturday, November 17: NYAEC Annual Conference. Possibility for sightseeing in the evening after the conference, including visits to different areas in DC (National Harbor, Georgetown, Mount Vernon)

Saturday, November 17 pm: Sightseeing and cultural visits.

Sunday, November 18 pm: Washington DC – Buenos Aires

Monday, November 19 am: Arrival in Buenos Aires. November 19 is a national holiday, thus allowing time for participants to recuperate before going back to schools.

Last week in November: Debriefing session. A review of main trends, lessons learned, most important takeaways. Sharing of resources and experiences from innovative products in the exhibit hall. How to capitalize the learning at each of participants’ schools.
